Win a Ferrari!!!

So I came across this book entitled THE BOOK on winning the game of life. I also noted that you can Win a Ferrari through the purchase of this book, so I thought why not, increasing my financial education and going into the draw to win a car, that sounds right up my alley!!

Here are some comments on the book taken from their website: This is what Dr. Denis Waitley, an International Best Selling Author of “The Psychology of Winning” had to say,

“Wise beyond his years, Kevin has focused on the traits that make common people so uncommonly successful. Life is a game with no timeouts, no substitutions and no instant replay. This book shows us how to move from player to champion.”

Brian Tracy , a Leading Self Development Author “The Way to Wealth” said,

“Save yourself many years, and even a lifetime of struggle in achieving success and prosperity. Follow the practical steps in this book and revolutionize your life.”

And Tom BIG AL Schreiter, a Leading Network Marketing Expert said,

“If you would just read pages 37 – 45, ‘Letting it happen vs Making it happen’, then you’ll know this book is for you. Why didn’t someone tell us this in high school?”
————————————————–

I received my copy of the book in under a week which I thought was incredibly quick and I started reading it as soon as I opened it and had it finished the following night.

This is an incredibly easy book to read, with short enough chapters to pick it up read a bit and put it down, you don’t need a lot of time to concentrate on it and it isn’t too ’serious’, its a very easy read and I highly reccomend it.

Although maybe I shouldn’t be reccomending it until after the prize draw… hmmm, if you read this, buy the book, then win the ferrari be sure to let me know!!!

Timely Goals

don’t care what you goal is, HOWEVER for the sake of your sanity give your goal a timeframe!!!!!

Knowing specifically when your goal should be reached is an enormous factor in setting your goals!! Sure some goals are ‘never ending’, then split it up into parts and give them a timeframe.

For Example, a goal to ‘keep in shape’ is essentially a never ending goal (Let alone not all that measurable or specific!), as once you are ‘in shape’ it doesn’t take a lot to get out of shape again! Instead split up this goal, and for the next year perhaps say I am going to loose 5kgs by Christmas like Sally. Next year you can look at your general goal to stay in shape and make a new goal as to how you are going to keep in shape this year and why.

Always give your goal a timeframe!! I am going to increase my wealth by $100 per week by 31 December 2008, I am going to drop 1 dress size by 15 January 2009, I am going to save enough $$ to go on a holiday to Raratonga on 31 March 2009.

Give yourself a timeframe and remember to check in on your process at achieving your goals every once in a while, eg for a goal that is a year away check back in on your process every couple of months, or perhaps every week

Now we know how to create awesome goals, which by now are SMART and are WRITTEN DOWN ON PAPER!!!

Realistic Goals

What do you mean realistic goals? Anything I make a goal is realistic isn’t it? Well yes to an extent, however some people make goals which are practically impossible for them in their given circumstances.

Once people don’t meet goals they often give up and don’t bother to set new goals. This is why setting realistic goals is extremely important!!

For example, Sam’s goal is to write a 200 page book on How to Create Quilts within the next 30 days. Sam works a 50 hour week, spends hours a week running around after her children, taking them to school and soccer practice and also is planning her eldest daughters wedding which is at the end of the month. Realistically for Sam she is most likely not going to be able to achieve her goal this month due to the pressure she is under.

Instead Sam could create a goal that she is going to write 30pages of the 200 page book within the next 30 days, she will write 1 page per day for the next 30 days and will then write 2 pages per day for the rest of the time until she completes her book. Creating a more realistic goal will help keep Sam on track and not feel ‘bogged’ down trying to achieve her goal.

So assess your circumstances, decide how much time you can actually spend on achieving your goals and integrate that time into making your goals realistic.

Now that our goals are realistic lets make sure they are timely…

Attainable Goals

Attainable Goals…

Making your goals attainable can mean outlining the strategy you are going to undertake to achieve your goals.

Breaking your goals down into ‘bite sized pieces’ can help you see the bigger picture and not get overwhelmed by the goal. This is especially important in long term goals where it can be easy to loose focus and give up.

Let’s see an example, Jack wants to start his own home based business which will bring in $5000 per month in passive income, he wants to reach the $5000 per month within 5 years time.

Now 5 years time can seem quiet a long way away for some people, and very close for others.

The first step is to split up the goal into manageable chunks.

Firstly Jack could set aside 3 months to research what type of home based business he wants to build, the next 3 months he could join or start the business with the intent on learning as much as he can. The following 6 months Jack is going to ensure that he has branded himself and is treating his business like a million dollar business. The next 4 years Jack is going to be actively building his business.

Jack will reevaluate his goals every quarter so he can see what he still needs to do and what he has accomplished so far.

Sometimes it takes baby steps to accomplish a goal, every little step helps to achieve the ultimate goal!!

Measureable Goals

Measurable Goals

How can you tell if you have reached your goal if it is not measurable?

If we go back to the example of Sally wanting to loose weight so she can fit into her dress for the Christmas party we can see that it is measureable because Sally will be able to tell that she has met her goal once has dropped 5kg and she fits into the dress!!

To make it more measurable we could say that Sally wants to loose at least 5kgs by Christmas so that she will fit into her favorite dress in time for the Christmas party.

Some other examples include, increasing your passive income by $100 per week by the end of the year. This is measureable as we can see in our bank account that our income has increased by $100 per week over and above what it was at the time of goal setting.

Making your goals measureable means that when it comes time to review your goals you will know if you have met them or not, there isn’t any doubt as to whether or not the goal was achieved, you either put in the effort and achieved, put in the effort and didn’t achieve for some reason, or didn’t put in the effort and consequently didn’t achieve.

Next we will make sure your goals are attainable…

Specific Goals

By now you will have thought of a rough goal or 10 that you have for the future.

Now lets turn your goal(s) into a SMART goal!!

Firstly we need to make your goal Specific. In order to make your goal specific you need to look at the 6 W’s (Some of you may remember this from story writing when you were a wee tot beginning school).

Who
What
When
Which
Where
Why

Lets take a simple everyday goal such as “I want to get into shape”…

Now looking at the 6 W’s lets make it a bit more specific!!

Sally wants to loose weight by Christmas 2008 so she can fit into her favourite dress for the annual Christmas party.

I have found that just by adding why you want to achieve your goal is a huge motivator to keep pressing on when times get tough, often if you quit your why is not strong enough and needs to be reevaluated.

I have found that each of the 6 W’s leads into the rest of the criteria for SMART goals, so spend a bit of time in this area crafting your goals and the rest of the goal setting process should be relatively smooth.

Ready, Steady, Set your Specific Goals!!

I wanted to share with you another quote that I found along my travels.

“A Candle looses nothing by lighting another candle.” Erin Majors

Take from this what you like but I think this simply tells us that there is nothing wrong with helping other people, be it by way of introducing them to a new opportunity, donating to your favourite charity, selling someone something they want or need, helping people set goals through the use of a blog (Yep that will be the next few posts), giving a tourist directions to the museum, lending money to those less fortunate, or anything else.

We can all help in so many different ways, some of corse help more than others but so long as we are helping people and not harming them I think the process will continue.

Have you ever seen the movie Pay It Forward?

Great Concept!!!

Goals, Goals, Goals

What are goals?
Goals are basically where you want to be and/or what you want to accomplish at some point in ones life.

Why set goals?
Studies have proven that people who set goals are more likely to achieve their dreams than those that do not set goals. Even more specifically those that write down their goals are more likely to achieve their goals than those who just keep them in their mind.

How do I set goals?
You may have heard of SMART goals, these are goals which are Specific, Measureable, Achievable, Recognisable & Timely. By grabbing a piece of paper and making sure your goals are SMART goals you will be well on your way to achieving that which you wish to achieve.

So start thinking about what kind of goals you may have and over the next 5 posts we will look at each aspect of SMART goals so we can get our goals on paper…

Today is another quote day to get you thinking

“Make it a rule of life never to regret and never to look back. Regret is an appalling waste of energy; you can’t build on it,
It’s only good for wallowing in.” Katherine Mansfield
