Many online business are exploiting the huge potential of blogging as a marketing tool.It has become a very much cherished asset of many businesses due to its massive influence on directing targetted traffic as well as offering free advertising. In order to succeed with a business blog, you need to know some don’ts which can be lethal to your business.

1.Choosing the wrong webhost.

Choosing a host can make or break your blog.It is important that you invest some time researching for a good host as there are many poor and unreliable webhosts scrambling for attention with the increasing trend in people turning to the web for promoting their businesses. It is advisable to choose a webhost which offers a wide array of relevant features;have minimal or hardly any downtimes, in other words, are up and running 99.9% of the time and have a good support system. It is a good habit to check client reviews before choosing any particular host.

2. Choosing the wrong domain name.

Choosing the wrong domain name can be lethal to your blog success. Exploiting the names of popular websites by using different extensions such as .net or .info etc will not augur well for your site and also bear in mind that most people are used to the .com extension and might be detoured whilst getting to your site.If someone already owns your desired domain name you need to modify it a bit to make it unique keeping the vision intact. There are people who purchase some common domain names and wait for prospective clients who want those names so if you don’t find your desired name you can always hunt around for owners of that particular name and it is possible you might get it at a reasonable price.

3.Poorly written content.

A blog is supposed to establish you as an expert in your field.Having a lot of grammatical and typographical errors dampens your image. It is always in your best interest to at least go over your blog and do a spell check before posting.Having duplicate contents on your site also gives a poor reflection of your expertise and readers tend to lose interest quickly.

4. Infrequent Blog Updates

Its quite unfortunate but most bloggers infrequently update their blogs and keep their readers in suspense . The smart marketers make a conscious effort to regularly update their site as they know the significance and the impact on web traffic. You might lose your readers for good if you do not invest time in updating your blog.

5. Improper research

Have you ever wondered why some bloggers succeed and others don’t? Take some time to go through some of those blogs and you realize that the authors invested in research to ensure that the information they provide is accurate. It is proper to make sure that your blog content is right as you might end up losing that credibility you have earned over time.

6. Over-monetizing your blog

It is widely acceptable to monetize your blog with affiliate links from eBay, clickbank or any of the other hundreds that are available, but be circumspect.Always have in mind that blog readers are interested in the content of the blog and not in sale pitches.

7. Broken Links

Lets look at a scenario where as a blog reader you click on a link and find out it’s dead or you end up on a strange page having nothing to do with the blog? How would you feel? Frustrated? So check and recheck your links. It is important.

There are a lot of reasons to blog, including voicing your opinions, doing a public service, and more. A more “insidious” motivation to start a blog is to make an impression on Google, providing updated content to your site continuously (not to say there is anything wrong with romancing Google!) This is because Google does not look favorably upon static websites and gives higher ranks to those which are updated more actively.

Where your blog can be posted/published: If you don’t already have your own web site, many blogging services are available online. Blogger and Wordpress are two of the most used applications. Yahoo.com has also started getting some of the action in blogging. You can insert a blog on your pre-existing website, which is a fairly common practice.

When building a website unless you are a webmaster and can build these with your eyes closed will not have a perfect site right upfront. Just about every site will look very minimal and start from the bottom and work it way to being the site you want it to be.

Finding a Quick Setup

Another option that many people want to have, but can never find, is fast start up times. It usually takes someone months to find the proper setup for their website, and even longer if you’re new setting up a website. Whether it’s finding the right template, colors, or monetizing options, you have to know when and where to put each one. Then of course to start making money you need marketing and advertising capabilities.

There are several individuals out there who have tried to make money online, but just can’t get over the hump. You might even be in this class, and we understand how irritating it can be. However, most people try to do everything themselves instead of getting help in other locations. You can do this too, but the results will take forever to come. Let us help you make the right decision and utilize our research we’ve been doing online for years. If you do, you’ll be one step ahead of everyone else when it comes to setting up a website.

On OK to Make Money Online, let’s take a more in-depth look at Search Engine Optimization (SEO). SEO comes down to nothing more than staying on subject with your blog or website and using properly researched keywords or long tail keywords.

Most web sites do not focus on keywords or keyword optimization. The website authors do not do the proper keyword research and so the pages and the site are not keyword optimized. Then when Google spiders the site what does it find? A whole bunch of keywords but very little uniformity, and if by accident there is some keyword uniformity, what is the keyword? Worse yet the keyword or long tail keywords don’t even pertain to the main subject of the site.

It’s a fact that search engines love blogs. It’s the goal of the search engines to find and index new quality information as quickly as possible. Blogs are a good place to look for this information.

In the beginning blogs or web logs were something like an online journal. Blogs were created for personal use, like a journal, people would write their daily happenings and whatever ideas they wanted to express online. They are now a great tool for businesses to market themselves online. Blogs are now being used not just for of writing, they are now a means for search engine optimization to increase a websites ranking on search engine results pages.

If you have not been blogging to generate traffic then you’re missing out on an opportunity to bring the search engines to your web site. The main task for blogging is to update it on a regular basis with good, unique content. Just creating a blog and not updating it with relevant content is useless. You need to update your blog several times per week to get real benefits.

Setting up a blog is easy. There is several free sites on the internet where you can create your own blog and get free hosting for it. You can host your own blog, but free hosting is simple and fast.

Free blog hosting sites. With blogging all you need is an account with a blog provider. In most cases, here are two blogs that are free of charge.

Wordpress.com is a popular site that will host your blog for free. It’s very simple and fast to create a blog here.

Blogger.com is another free site where you can set up and host a blog. You can just about instantly create a blog and start writing about the topics that interest you. One advantage of using Blogger.com is that search engines visit it often.

Hosting your own blog. Hosting your own blog gives you much more flexibility to add assorted applications and plug-ins. If you like having the ability to customize your blog to make it more unique and distinctive then hosting it yourself may be the way to go. I believe WordPress is the best blogging script available, it’s very easy to install, and you can publish content to the blog within a short time of setting it up.

Whether you use a free hosted blog or your own web host, give search engines a reason to keep visiting your website. Update your blog with new information several times per week.

Ping your blog after you post. Each time you make a post on your blog, ping your blog to let the blogging directories know you have made a new post. There are many ping services available and they are easy to use. I like to use Pingomatic. Its simple and free.

The best way to have a successful blog is to review other blogs that have a good Google page rank. Do a Google search for keywords in your subject and see what comes up. Study a few of them and see what is working for them. It’s easy to tell if a blog is doing well by how they are rated in Google, how often they are updating and how many comments each blog post gets.

Comments on your blog from visitors help to increase its popularity with Google. Make sure you enable comments on your blog so people can respond to your posts.

When your write to your blog you want your tone be personable, friendly, pretty much like you are talking with your readers. You want your blog to stick to the subject and include the kind of content that makes your readers leave comments.

I can not guarantee that following these steps will make your new blog an overnight success, but over time a well run blog can be a great way to generate more traffic to your site.
