As some of you may have noticed, I do not use a complete website, Instead I simply just use a wordpress blog with my own domain name.
There are advantages and disadvantages of using both however I have found that for what I want to use this domain name for (www.educatedkiwi.com), I don’t require a fully fledged website as I am only utilising the blog, and contact page, I may in future put in a links on a reccomended reading page – however wordpress is great for this as you can just create a new’page’ rather than a ‘post’.
You can purchase domain names cheaply from Go Daddy, or any other domain site for that matter – I have found Go Daddy to be pretty good and I have purchased all of my stand alone domain names from there.
You can also purchase web hosting and domains from Blue Host – which is where I currently host EducatedKiwi as I was originally going to have a shopping basket as well (I have now decided to solely use TradeMe). This cost me about $80 bucks (USD) for a year and it is incredibly easy to use, it has heaps of features which you basically just click install enter a username and password and it is all set up for you!!
There are discussion boards, different blogging tools, photo galleries, shopping carts etc – you name it and they are likely to have it!!
So if your thinking about creating yourself a website for personal or business use I highly reccomend the two companies I have mentioned – if you just want a domain name Go Daddy is awesome and if you want a fully fledged website with all the bells and whistles I HIGHLY RECCOMEND going with Blue Host as it is really simple to use!!
There are of corse free places to host your website – however these tend to have ads which can be mighty distracting to your visitors!!
I do also reccomend Wordpress if you just want a nice simply easy to use free blog as it does everything you need from a simple blog :)
